Industrial Chickens


What’s in the food we eat? Industrial chickens aren’t what people think they are, anymore. The differences between the industrial chickens of now a day are extremely different from the chickens that use to be raise by farmers. These industrial chickens are   almost completely different, in weight, size, and speed of growth. The government isn’t doing much if not nothing at all about the conditions these chickens are being kept in. The companies like McDonald’s and many others, can basically do whatever they like, because no one has any control over them. The government should make more laws about these animals and the conditions they are in, most companies don’t even upgrade their slaughter houses. The treatment the chickens receive should be considered animal cruelty and shouldn’t be allowed. The food they are fed aren’t even food from their natural habitat.

“Normal” chickens take about three months to be fully grown, meanwhile these industrial chickens take only take 49 days, but not only do they grow much faster  they also grow way bigger, but you have to ask yourself is this good for you, is this good for these chickens?. Industrial chickens are grown almost two times faster and three times bigger, although this is good for mass production, it is not good for these poor chickens at all. The 5 ½ pound chickens can’t hold up their own weight their bones can’t take the weight. The conditions they are kept in aren’t good at all, and as time goes by and technology progresses, the conditions these chickens are raised in only get worse the farmers have no choice but to obey the instructions of these companies or else they don’t get paid and lose their farms. These chickens are all together cramped up with almost no space to moves they urinate and defecate where stand, they also eat from the same place, some get sick and die rite there and then this of course can’t be healthy for everyone. How is it possible that chickens can die while being in the hen house? And still the chickens whom are in the same place, and survive, are still used to make food. The conditions for the chickens aren’t good they get sick because they are exposed to many virus, anti-biotic are used on the chickens but the antibiotics have been used so much, that the bacteria’s and viruses have become resistant to all the anti-biotics, and  some farmer have even turned allergic because they’ve delt with these antibiotics for so long.

There should be laws against this form of farming. These companies contribute a lot of money to the government, if laws are created there’s always some type of lope whole that these companies find to go around the law. The government should give fines to these farms for not keeping these hens houses sanitary. The food the chickens are fed are the least expensive which most of the time is feed, which can include animal products, antibiotics, and other unnatural substances such as chewing gum and chicken manure, their health is put is in danger. And when an animal is unhealthy, the meat and other products made from it will also be less healthy. Because factory farms profit from, these operations use the cheapest food available to make the chicken fat, with no concern to the chicken’s health or the health of us who eat these products. Some of the unhealthy products that can be found in chicken feed are meat from animals of other or the same species, meat from diseased animals, bits of feathers, hair, skin, hooves, blood, manure and other animal waste, plastics, antibiotics and unhealthy amounts of grain.

The slaughter houses is where the chickens get processed, and what is amazing is that the animals are not checked out, if they are sick or healthy to be able to be made into food, apparently it doesn’t matter if they are sick they are still processed it doesn’t matter to these companies if we get sick I think this shouldn’t be allowed either. Most of these slaughter houses aren’t upgraded with the latest technology, which will help by making the chicken suffer less. Some chickens from the day they are born till the day they arrive at the slaughter house never get to see day light they are hatched in a drawer then thrown in a “hole” until they are fully grown and finally becomes useful to them to make food, could anyone imagine not being able to see sunlight from the day they are born to the day they die? Well these chickens have no choice they were born with the destiny of being slaughtered for us to eat, but don’t you think they should at least be able to see the sunlight, get some fresh air before they are slaughtered.

In conclusion, the industries that produce all these chickens are careless about the chickens and the health of their consumers. The government doesn’t seem to do much about this it must be because of all the contributions and donations they get from all these companies, if they go against these companies they wouldn’t have any money to back them up and the companies might help their opponents. The chickens are only one of the examples of the animal cruelty these industries do.

The articles I've read about the soda being baned from being purchased with foodstamps monEY. I agree with the articles because if the government is providing you with money to eat it should be in your best interest to use that money for healthy foood, not food that will make your family sick or un-healthy. Obesity is a problem in this country especially in this state of New York . . .

300 word response to chapeter 2 of "Fast Food Nation" & the movie "Super Size Me"

In the movie "Super size me" and in the book Fast food nation Mc Donalds is a big topic. In my opinion the message in both is clear fast food isn't good for us. Super size me is about a guy, whos goal is to see the affect that Mc Donals has on our bodies, and if it is really the cause of obesity in this country. In the movie it is shown that eating Mc Donalds isn't healthy at all, it makes you sick if u eat to much of it and it can affect you physically. I think it is a great movie it opens your eyes to how bad Mc Donalds can be for you, it tells you things you might already know but the information they give you all together gets people to thinking on another level.
The Book Fast food Nation ,chapter 2 , speaks about many topics, but one in specific is about children and adverstisment. for example the way Mc Donlads attracts the children to come to their "Restaurant", by puting toys in the happy meals . The toys put in an Mc Donalds happy meal isn't always the same, and they are usually something that will catch your eye and make you want it. The happy meal that are bout mostly for the toys are not all purchased for the kids, there are many grown people who purchase it aswell for their own reason like building a collection. Advertising for kids has become a huge thing. Kids spend most of their time watching Tv, and most of the time on Tv all you see is commecials, Commercials make the kids desire what they offer. Most young people can't afford to go out and buy things, so their parent have to go and buy it for them, and by the parent going the producers gain two or more new costumers instead of just one. I think that there should be a limit to how far advertisements can go to convince the consumers especially young costumers.

In the introduction the Topic isn’t clear. The first sentence isn’t to much of a attention grabber.

The way our ancestors cooked was healthier although it wasn’t as presentable.

It was easy to identify the main idea of each paragraph. The main ideas mentioned in the introductions were discussed in an organized way. The conclusion just restated the main idea mentioned in the introduction.

thoughts about "Food inc"

Food inc in my opinion is a great movie if you are looking for a source about food how it has changed and how we produce it i was amazed in most of the information they provided in the movie things you would never expect, and even the things you might of herd about they actually show you and when you see it , it just opens your eyes completely for example all the products that contain Corn or it is also amazing how the big companies like mc donals and other corporations try to cover up and don't permit the farmers show the reality within the chicken house what is it that they have to hide it makes us wonder how healthy can it be .

Peruvian Pachamanca
In the early nineteen hundreds Peruvian food wasn’t very presentable. In today’s life the majority of the Peruvian culture not only make sure the food tastes good but that it looks good as well. One dish in Particular I’ll speak about is a traditional dish “Pachamanca”. Pachamanca a food that came from the “sierra”. The word pachamanca comes from Qetchua roots, “Pacha” meaning pot and “Manca” meaning different meats. It’s a very famous dish that we cook . I’ll be sharing how’d we acquire the meat we used, such as lamb, pork, chicken or Guinea pig, how long it took them, where they cooked it, also how much it cost them , and compare how both my ancestors and my parents cook it and how they differ.
Pachamanca contains many different meats. Most today are very easy to acquire, but others are a little more difficult or a bit more expensive than others. For example chicken can be found in a supermarket or any regular store that sells meat. Lamb isn’t as easy to find as chicken, but it shouldn’t be too difficult since it can also be found in some supermarkets. also pork. Back in the 1900’s, these different types of meats wouldn’t be as easy to get, you would have to hunt the animal down, clean them up and go through a whole process. The point is it wasn’t as easy to obtain the meats. However I believe that, although today it is much easier to get the meat, they are also not as healthy as they were back then for the reason that now we decide what these animals eat, we also give them hormones so they can produce more milk for a longer time period, or grow larger or faster, and we give them anti-biotics so the milk won’t make people sick. In the 1900 the animals would feed on grass and on their natural eating habits. Most of these animals weren’t found in the same area, you would have to travel a little or go a distance and take time to get them all. The ingredients used by my ancestors were fresh, unlike the ones we use in this current time where they are either shipped from far away or processed and completely changed and not usually for better as thought.
            The techniques they used to cook in the 1900 were almost completely different to how we cook it now. For instance they use to dig big holes and use heating rocks to cook this dish which took a Long time not only to cook but to gather the rocks, dig the whole and to hunt the animals. In this century we just get the ingredients at the store put them in the pot and cook them much faster the only problem with that is that a flavor is Lost which is a big differences . The original flavor is lost, because all these natural ingredients make a huge difference in the smell and taste of the dish, the smoke from the banana plants and the heating of these special rocks can never be compared to the kitchen of now where we just use gas to start a fire and warm up the either frozen or processed ingredients.
Chicha made of a white corn called jora, which looks like the normal yellow corn but it’s not, yellow corn is soft and this corn is hard we boil this corn and all the juice it releases gives a flavor which we put in a container made of mud, we put brown sugar, some chancaca and panela which makes it really sweat we cover it with a “tela” and leave it there for about 2-3 days the mud makes it get fertilize it doesn’t have the same flavor as when this process began it turns into some type of alcohol, if it remains in there for 2-3 weeks you can even get drunk with it when it’s very fertilized, they used it just to rose the pachamanca with it, so it can give it a different flavor. Besides using this chicha on the pachamanca we also drink it to accompany the pachamanca.
Pachamanca is an expensive dish, for 6 people it would now cost about $80-100 of course this is now. My ancestors wouldn’t have to pay as much but they would take longer just to get the ingredients and do all the preparations.
In conclusion, in my opinion although it took longer, and a lot of patience at the end the way my ancestors cooked and prepared the food was better. The presentation of the food is important but not nearly as important as the taste, because the fact that something looks better doesn’t always mean that it is better for our health or in flavor.
